Outside of the Bay Area and Napa Valley, the idea of luxury homes in Northern California might not be so obvious to untrained home buyer. But the market for luxury home sales in several counties that make up the Sacramento region was actually booming in 2016.
Homes selling for more than $900,000 accounted for 580 closed transactions last year in Yolo, Sacramento, Placer and El Dorado counties, per the Sacramento Bee.
That's an impressive number. But even more impressive is that those sales represented an 18 percent increase in luxury home sales over 2015.
Placer County - which includes Roseville, Auburn and some Lake Tahoe communities - led the four-county region with a total of 235 luxury home transactions in 2016, followed by Sacramento (161), El Dorado (99) and Yolo (85).
